Adam Wisniewski-Snerg (1937-95) was born on the outskirts of Warsaw. His science fiction writing is largely focused around the consequences of totalitarianism. Although largely unread during his lifetime, after his suicide in 1995 his work began to receive major critical attention. He is now considered to be, along with Stanislaw Lem, one of Poland's greatest science fiction writers.

Adiva Geffen is a bestselling writer and playwright. Her plays have appeared on major stages in Israel, she lectures and leads numerous writing workshops and she is a board member of the Israeli Writers’ Association. 
 
 Geffen started out as a special-education teacher, before serving as the spokesperson for the Habima National Theatre for more than a decade. She founded and subsequently led the Israeli Theatre Award for ten years, and now serves as head of The Gnazim Institute of the Hebrew Writers Association, the largest Hebrew literature archive in the world. 
 
 Born in Haifa, Israel and the mother of three sons, Geffen now lives in Tel Aviv with her partner Aharon Meidan.

Writer and director David Hare is one of England's leading political dramatists, celebrated for his many award-winning plays analysing the morality of contemporary Britain. This collection comprises some of his most acclaimed pieces, as well as a fascinating radio interview with Hare himself. 
 
It opens with his two acknowledged masterpieces: Plenty and Amy's View. Inspector Purbright is a thoroughly English policeman: affable, polite, dogged and decent. Created by award-winning crime writer Colin Watson, he appeared in 12 Flaxborough mysteries, four of which were adapted for BBC TV under the title Murder Most English. These five radio dramatisations star Peter Jeffrey, John Pullen and John Rowe as Purbright. 
 
Coffin, Scarcely Used - When newspaper proprietor Marcus Gwill is found dead under an electricity pylon, shortly after the death of his neighbour Harold Carobleat, Inspector Purbright investigates. He soon discovers that something very odd is going on in the seemingly respectable town of Flaxborough. 
 
Bump in the Night - Tuesday nights in Chalmsbury are becoming quite explosive: first a drinking fountain is blown to bits, then the statue of Alderman Berry is decapitated, and the following week a giant glass eye is shattered. On loan from Flaxborough CID, can Purbright find the mystery bomber? 
 
Lonelyheart 4122 - Two middle-aged women have gone missing in Flaxborough, and Purbright's investigations lead him to local marriage bureau Handclasp House. Meanwhile, the resourceful Miss Lucy Teatime has her own interest in the agency... 
 
Charity Ends At Home - The kindly detective probes dark deeds in the world of small-time animal charities - and uncovers a trail of murder and sabotage. 
 
The Naked Nuns - An intercepted telegram hints that Flaxborough is home to human traffickers - and then a tip-off arrives from America that an assassin is on the way. Soon, Inspector Purbright finds himself picking his way through a case of vice and violence...

Inspector Alia Khan is a tough, determined female cop struggling to make her mark in a male-dominated world. In Series 1, landed with a new partner, she investigates a rescued baby, a missing husband, a child prostitution ring and strange goings-on at a psychiatric hospital. In Series 2, the disgraced police inspector has just been released from jail. Seeking a life of obscurity, she gets a job as a receptionist in a run-down Mumbai hotel. But when a serial killer starts operating on the rooftop, Alia is called in. Paired up with incompetent Inspector Ratna Shinde, she soon realises that the murderer is trying to communicate with her through the victims themselves... 
 
Series 3 finds Alia going undercover after suspicions are raised about a young woman's death. When Nyla Ansari is found in a bathtub in her parents' home, a bottle of pills beside her, it looks like suicide. Then a video is discovered, made by Nyla a year before. In it, she claims her father, a wealthy Indian businessman, was going to kill her. Posing as a newly married couple, Alia and her male colleague Junaid Qureshi move into the flat next door. Their mission: befriend Nyla's family, friends and servants, and find out the truth...

Actor and sleuth Charles Paris is back in this full-cast BBC radio dramatisation of Simon Brett's novel, starring Bill Nighy 
 
Locked down with his semi-detached wife Frances, Charles has thrown himself into a new career as a handyman, becoming quite the DIY expert. He's developed muscles, stopped smoking and even cut back on the booze. 
 
Then his agent, Maurice, offers him the chance to get back on stage - and in a West End play, no less. The star, Justin Grover, asked for him specifically: but Charles has reservations. Grover was cocky enough when they were both young hopefuls; now he's the star of a massive TV fantasy series, and the play - a verbatim piece set in a monastery - is dire. 
 
So why has Justin signed up for it? He certainly doesn't need the money, unlike Charles. The cast is drearily male, and before long Charles is hitting the Scotch again. When he drunkenly stumbles over the corpse of a fellow actor, Charles panics, leaving the body to be discovered by someone else. But he soon regrets lying to the police, and driven by guilt and self-preservation, he resolves to find the murderer... 
 
This sparkling adaptation by Jeremy Front stars Bill Nighy (Emma, Love Actually) as Charles Paris, with Suzanne Burden as Frances and Jon Glover as Maurice.

1920s Stirling, and Chief Pathologist Dr Wallace is the town's acknowledged expert on all matters forensic. But he's not the only detective in the family - his daughter Barbara, a medical student, also has quite a talent for investigating. In these six one-off dramas, the two amateur sleuths join forces to tackle a string of tricky cases, each involving a suspicious death. 
 
A Good Shaking - When a woman is accused of killing her three-month-old daughter, Dr Wallace and Barbara are determined to discover the truth. 
 
Fast and Loose - Two mysterious deaths, in Glasgow and Stirling, intrigue the duo. Sleeping pills seem like the simplest solution for one, but could the other be linked to dry cleaning fluid? 
 
Rights and Wrongs - Dr Wallace finds himself in court as a witness in a malpractice case. Meanwhile, Barbara ponders some moral questions of her own... 
 
Testing Times - A grim discovery in Braeburn Quarry draws Dr Wallace into a double murder case. And at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, with exam season approaching, Barbara suddenly finds herself in demand. 
 
Win Some, Lose Some - A Lake District holiday beckons for Dr Wallace, but there's a crucial piece of evidence to be delivered afterwards. In her father's absence, Barbara looks into an alleged poisoning case - and receives a surprise proposal. 
 
Not Proven- A doubtful suicide presents Dr Wallace and DC Curran with a perplexing puzzle - and Barbara is faced with a difficult career decision...

First broadcast on the BBC Light Programme in 1957, these 13 detective dramas are collected together here for the first time. British film veteran Cecil Parker stars as Dr Morelle, with Sheila Sim as Miss Frayle. 
 
Also included is a bonus documentary programme, The Radio Detectives: A Case for Dr Morelle, in which Professor Jeffrey Richards delves into the casebook of the cantankerous criminal psychologist. 
 
These episodes have been restored from the original 1957 recordings. Due to the vintage nature of these recordings, the sound quality varies.

Roguish Londoner Milkie leaves a glittering society gala to do a favour for glamorous actress Beth Williams. But no good deed goes unpunished, as Milkie soon discovers when an unexpected trip to the Welsh mountains sees him embroiled in a murderous conspiracy. 
 
Nationalism is running riot in this corner of the country, and the local villages and towns have been rocked by arson and bloodshed. Breweries and newspaper offices have been torched, and now an old lady has been brutally beaten, her house ransacked. Suspicion falls on a group of fanatics called The Soldiers of the Red Dragon - but could someone else be behind the attack on Valmai, and if so, what's their endgame? 
 
Milkie's out of his depth in this harsh landscape. He doesn't speak Welsh, the locals don't trust him and he doesn't know what he's getting into. But his attraction to Beth compels him to seek the truth - and soon it's not just terrorism and violence he's dealing with, but political corruption reaching right to the very top... 
 
Written by Nigel Baldwin (The Tree of Liberty), Burnt stars Dennis Waterman as reluctant hero Milkie. It is narrated by The Teller (Ray Smith), whose breaking of the fourth wall to address Milkie gives the story a unique and surprising slant, and its predominantly Welsh cast adds to the authenticity and atmosphere of this gripping Celtic noir.

A small town in Galloway, on the south-west coast of Scotland. A house strangely unchanged since 1941. A dead nurse. And a lawyer with one million pounds in his bank account - and no idea how it got there... 
 
Peter Calman is in trouble. His legal firm is on the brink of bankruptcy, his secretary's handed in her notice and his bank manager has cut off his credit. Just when he thinks things can't get any worse, his ex-girlfriend Jenny calls, worried about her friend Tim Leighton. She's received a note, supposedly sent by him from an exclusive private hospital - but Tim is a penniless hermit, and illiterate. 
 
Though the hospital denies all knowledge of Tim, Jenny's sure they're lying - and the mysterious caller on Peter's answerphone agrees. But before he can meet her, she's killed in a hit and run. Suspicion falls on Peter - and when a new German client arrives in town, offering him vast sums to buy a local cottage, the mutterings grow louder. And then Peter's office is ransacked... 
 
As the mystery deepens, Peter's investigations take him to moonlit Dungrennan Bay...
