Hamish and Dougal, two elderly Scotsmen played by Barry Cryer and Graeme Garden, have for many years been a popular feature of the hit BBC Radio 4 comedy show I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue. 
 
Now they've got their own series, with Mrs Naughtie (Alison Steadman) and a local Laird (Jeremy Hardy), regularly keeping the duo busy. 
 
In Series One's The Musical Evening, Dougal hosts a night to remember when Mrs Naughtie performs her Dance of the Seven Voles, while in The Murder Mystery Hamish and Dougal try to solve the case of her surprise disappearance. Romance in the Glen sees Hamish find a rival in the Laird after falling for society beauty Lady Caroline Fitz-Neatleigh, but they soon make amends as the elderly Scotsmen assist the Laird with armaments for The Shooting Party. 
 
In Series Two, suspicions are raised when the duo are asked to dig a hole for a coffin-shaped wardrobe in The Vampire of the Glen, but they're quickly distracted by the chance to enter Fay MacAdemy in Fame Idol. The Laird returns to challenge the Scottish duo to a MacAthlon in The Fitness Club, and the pair then investigate who's been snitching in green ink in The Poison Pen Letters. Not ones for a peaceful life, Hamish and Dougal face The Monster in the Loch, before their first trip to London ends the series (in chaos) with Trapped. 
 
Gambling Fever, the first episode of Series Three, sees Hamish becoming addicted to gambling after winning a Sporran Cosy in the Glen MacLottery, while in There's Something About Mrs Naughtie, the lady comes into an inheritance and attracts the advances of Hamish, Dougal and the Laird. In The Subsidence Adventure, Hamish & Dougal advertise as 'builders to the gentry', while in Inverurie Jones and the Thimble of Doom, a treasure hunter plunders the local museum. Look Who's Stalking finds Hamish and Dougal employed as ghillies to the Laird's stalking party, and Porridge Votes sees the Laird standing in the local by-election - with Hamish and Dougal running against him. 
 
The six hilarious episodes of Series Three are topped and tailed by two festive specials, in which the duo celebrates Hogmanay and Burns Night in their own inimitable way.

Hello there! You'll have had your tea? Dougal here. Well, here we go, with our wee book. It's a collection or pot pourri (I've no idea what Hamish means by that - it sounds like something to do with the Pope) of our activities or 'doings' in the village we call home, because that's exactly what it is. 
 
Together with our housekeeper, Mrs Naughtie, and of course, the Laird who lives up at the big hoose and shoots grouse and other bottles of whisky, these are the actual scripts of our wee show which we performed on the wireless, when most of you were probably in bed! 
 
Hamish and I have known each other all our lives - well, not yet, obviously! We have a very close relationship and also with each other. Mrs Naughtie been with us since we first met her at the Krankie Arms, where she was working as part-time barmaid and bouncer. 
 
In addition to the scripts you'll find all kinds of other things tucked away under its kilt. There's a hectic social life in the village. You'll visit the 'bide a wee' café, proud possessor of three Michelin tyres. You'll have a conducted tour of the big hoose by Big Tam, our local guide (not during opening hours). You'll marvel at the site of the Battle of Auchtermuchty, now allotments. You'll peek into the Laird's social diary in 'oot and aboot' (40p at the post office). And a great deal more. 
 
Well, I hope this wee note will make you hurry to the till and spend the terrible amount of money these wee books cost these days. But then again this particular wee book is Scotland's answer to Richard and Judy! Hurrah!

I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue: Humph In Wonderland

The 'I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue' team present their unique take on 'Alice in Wonderland' in this BBC Radio 4 special.

I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue was first broadcast on Radio 4 on Tuesday 11 April 1972, with a pilot edition which had been recorded in November 1971 under a working title of I'm Sorry They're At It Again. The panel consisted of the show's deviser, Graeme Garden, alongside Bill Oddie, Jo Kendall and Tim Brooke-Taylor. From the start, Clue's zany humour delighted listeners. Initial research revealed audience reactions such as 'teams were talented and amusing... an exceptionally fine quiz master - witty, relaxed and a good match for the teams.' One listener, however, complained that he 'hadn't a clue what it was all about' which, given the eventual title of the show, was perhaps an endorsement! The show's many years on air testify to its appeal, which owes much to the wit of the chairman, Humphrey Lyttelton. Humph, as he was affectionately known, was educated at Eton, and he trained at art college before joining the Daily Mail as a cartoonist. An ex-Grenadier Guardsman trumpeter, his reputation as a jazz player was legendary. The regular members of the panel - Tim Brooke-Taylor, Barry Cryer, Graeme Garden and, until his untimely death in December 1996, Willie Rushton - formed a perfect comic quartet. Tim and Graeme previously worked together on I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again, the forerunner of I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, whilst Barry and Tim appeared together on radio and television in Hello Cheeky. Their wholehearted enthusiasm for such games as Tag Wrestling, Wuthering Hillocks and Cheddar Gorge ensures constant hilarity on the panel and in the studio audience. Of course, the best-known game of all is Mornington Crescent, whose rules have eluded and baffled listeners for years. Other highlights include the lovely Samantha, and Colin Sell at the piano - who, according to Humph, is about to complete his latest album: 'All he needs is the latest set of prints back from Snappy-Snaps...' Humphrey Lyttelton, broadcaster, musician, presenter and master of the double entendre, died on 25 April 2008. After a long and understandable break, Radio 4's antidote to panel games returned on 15 June 2009 for its 51st series. Stephen Fry, Jack Dee and Rob Brydon took it in turns to keep some kind of order, as they chaired this new series without the much-missed Humph, and later the same year Jack Dee took over as the regular host. The Official Stage Tour also continued in 2009 without Humph, with Jack Dee, Rob Brydon and others sharing the chairman's role. I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2012.

Humph in Wonderland stars chairman Humphrey Lyttelton in the title role, with Tony Hawks as the Narrator, Sandi Toksvig as the Queen of Hearts, Tim Brooke-Taylor as the Duchess, Graeme Garden as the Cook and Barry Cryer as Humpty Dumpty. Andy Hamilton also features as the Caterpillar, with Rob Brydon as the Mad Hatter, Jeremy Hardy as the March Hare, Jack Dee as the Cheshire Cat and Colin Sell as the White Rabbit. Among the fun and games are: 'Mornington Crescent', 'Swanee Kazoo', 'Cheddar Gorge', new definitions for the 'Uxbridge English Dictionary', as well as 'Recipes for Nigella Lawson’s Saucy Mouthfuls' (she makes a great sticky tart). Including 20 minutes of bonus material not heard on transmission, this thoroughly daft take on Lewis Carroll is also a fitting tribute to the late, and much-missed, Humphrey Lyttelton.
